Council’s Welsh Language Support Team launch innovative ‘Pod Yr Ysgol’

Ceredigion County Council Education Department’s Welsh Language Support Team is proud to announce the launch of a new podcast series, “Pod Yr Ysgol,” designed specifically for the education workforce.

This initiative comes in response to feedback from secondary education sector staff who found it challenging to attend formal Welsh learning lessons while working. Although language learning apps are beneficial, many staff members expressed a preference for listening to podcasts during their commute.

Pod Yr Ysgol currently features six engaging episodes, each focusing on different aspects of a school day and timetable, such as arriving and leaving school, and lunchtime. These podcasts are perfect for those looking to learn vocabulary and simple patterns related to school life.

The podcasts will be available on all major digital platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, starting from September onwards.

This project has been made possible with the support of Arfor and Llwyddo’n Lleol.

Councillor Wyn Thomas, Ceredigion’s Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, said: “I am thrilled at the launch of Pod Yr Ysgol. Recognising the challenges faced by staff in attending formal Welsh lessons, we wanted to provide a flexible and accessible learning tool. These podcasts offer a convenient way to learn Welsh vocabulary and phrases related to school life, making it easier for our staff to integrate the language into their daily routines. We are grateful for the support from Arfor and Llwyddo’n Lleol in bringing this project to life, as well as the initiative and hard work of the Welsh Language Support Team.”
