On Sunday, June 26, at 9:20am officers received a report of a man drink driving in Rumney. The car was later sighted driving along Aberdarren Road, where the driver, Venables overtook an unmarked police car and drove off at speed.

Venables continued to drive erratically before crashing and making off on foot on Trebanog Crescent. He returned to an address in Trowbridge, where he was found by firearms officers.

Officers then conducted a roadside breath test where he blew 89 on roadside and 80 in custody which is over double the drink drive limit.
