Headteacher receives MBE from Prince William

THE headteacher of Craigfelen Primary School in Swansea has been to Buckingham Palace this month to receive an MBE from Prince William.

Alison Williams, who has been head teacher of the school for 11 years, was presented with the award for services to education and the community.

During her time as headteacher she has led the school to an ‘excellent’ Estyn inspection as well as writing two best practice case studies.

Her passion for enterprise education has ensured that this is at the heart of the school’s curriculum and has spread to other schools.

She has led the very successful Enterprise Swansea project with over 40 schools taking part this year where they took over Castle Gardens with their enterprise market.

Her support for the school’s community has led to many exciting projects including funding community play areas, allotments, a community kitchen, gardens, skate ramps and a MUGA as well as running a local community café and a bank for pupils, their families and local residents.

Alison said:

“I see the children as a second family. I am so proud of them and want to make sure they have the tools to succeed.

“I am honestly so honoured that people think what I have done and will continue to do is worth this level of recognition but honestly, I don’t feel I have done anything out of the ordinary.”

Chair of governors Ian Jenkins added:

“Every day working with Alison is a pleasure and as governors we get to see her commitment to Craigfelen Primary School, all the staff, our pupils and their families.

“She is hugely respect in the community and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”

Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Learning, Robert Smith, said:

“I would like to add my congratulations to Alison on receiving this award.
