Ffwrnes Theatre to host Welsh Rugby Legends to remember 9-3 victory over New Zealand

Theatrau Sir Gâr’s Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli will soon be hosting some of the greatest Welsh rugby players in history as part of a very special evening of remembrance on 23rd October at 7:30pm, as A Night to Remember 9-3 takes to the stage.

Fifty years on from Llanelli RFC’s historic win over the mighty All Blacks at the iconic Stradey Park in 1972, the Ffwrnes Theatre will play host to an evening celebrating the day that Llanelli was the most important place on earth.

Where were you on October 31st 1972? Were you one of the 20,000 at Stradey Park in Llanelli watching history being made? On this day as part of their 1972–73 tour of the Northern Hemisphere, the New Zealand national rugby union team’s fourth match saw them take on Llanelli RFC at Stradey Park, Llanelli,

In one of the most famous results in rugby union history, Llanelli won the match 9–3. Llanelli centre, Roy Bergiers scored the only try of the game, charging down a clearance by All Blacks scrum-half, Lin Colling after a penalty from the great Phil Bennett hit the post. New Zealand full-back, Joe Karam scored a penalty to give them their only points of the game, before Llanelli wing, Andy Hill hit a penalty to secure victory for the Scarlets.

Four of the Llanelli RFC team that beat the All Blacks are back in Llanelli on October 23rd – not on the rugby field this time but on the stage of the Ffwrnes Theatre. Delme Thomas, Derek Quinnell, Gareth Jenkins and Roy Bergiers will be reminiscing about that glorious day live on stage. Asking the questions will be former BBC Wales rugby presenter, Huw Llywelyn Davies, and he will also be leading the audience Q&A in the second half.

This is an unmissable evening not only for true Llanelli fans, but for fans of Welsh rugby in general.

Tickets are priced at £26.00 and are available from the Theatrau Sir Gâr Box Office on 0345 226 3510, or online at www.theatrausirgar.co.uk
