An Interview with journalist Martin Shipton

Political Editor At Large for Wales Online Martin Shipton discusses the state of the media in Wales.

Having had a long  career in journalism Martin is ideally placed to cast his eyes, ears and pen over the way in which the media industry in Wales has changed and he is entitled to make a prediction about its future.

Martin studied to Post Graduate level and began work in the North of England on a newspaper in Darlington where he crossed swords with none other than Dominic Cummings.

Returning to Wales where he has  become one of the most well known political journalists. His work is prolific and he is a champion of local news as well as working tirelessly on behalf of other journalists as a chair of the Reach NUJ group chapel.

Martin guides us through some of the changes and gives a great insight into where he sees failures and successes including the attempts by hyperlocals to fill the void left by the newspaper outlets, which closed their office doors in towns across Wales.

Martin is optimistic and has not lost  faith in the newspaper industry and believes there may be better times ahead.
