Dame Nia Griffith MP has expressed her concern over the uncertainty for Tata Steel.
In a statement the Llanelli MP said:
“The ongoing uncertainty around the future of Tata Steel’s operation in Port Talbot is of great concern. It affects many families not only in that area of South Wales but also those employees working in their Trostre plant in my constituency too.
Conservative UK Government Ministers have been dragging their feet for months on whether or not to support our steelworkers. The further delay now created by the ongoing Tory leadership contest is only causing additional confusion when it comes to the future of what is one of the UK’ key strategic industries.
Along with other Labour MPs, I have been arguing for prompt and decisive action to support the company’s transition to a low carbon future and to safeguard the many jobs and livelihoods that rely on a vibrant, successful steel industry.
We really need Tory Ministers to stop burying their heads in the sand on this and provide the necessary support as soon as possible.”
