RSPCA rescuer takes on Mount Snowdon to raise funds for animal welfare charity

An RSPCA rescuer with a head for heights has taken part in a special fundraiser to help Cancel Out Cruelty this summer.

Animal rescue officer Neil Coleman took on the challenge of hiking Snowdon on Saturday 27 August, and was accompanied by friend Libby Phillips – animal care supervisor at RSPCA Bryn Y Maen Animal Centre. She also brought along blind dog Ruby, an 11-year-old Jack Russell with them.

Neil said it was a great experience and chose to raise funds for the RSPCA as working on the frontline as an officer he fully sees the work that is carried out by the animal welfare charity day in day out.

Neil – who works in the London area – said: “We left at 4am via the Watkin Path route and we made it to the top at around 8.30am. Ruby – who is blind in both eyes – did amazing and we did have to carry her most of the way near the top. We then made it down the bottom by 11.30am.

“It was both our first time up and it was only recently we decided we should try climbing Snowdon and raise some cash for the RSPCA as well at the same time!

“I’ve raised £325 so far, but would love to raise a little bit more as I know how every penny can be spent to help rescue animals in need.

“The Cancel Out Cruelty summer campaign aims to raise funds to keep its rescue teams on the frontline saving animals in desperate need of help as well as raise awareness about how we can all work together to stop cruelty for good. As the summer is our busiest time, we need the public’s support more than ever.”

This summer the RSPCA has launched its Cancel Out Cruelty fund-raising campaign as summer is the busiest period for the animal welfare charity.
