Thousands of Christmas gifts donated to children in need

OVER 7,500 toys and gifts have been distributed to children through the Christmas Toybox Appeal.

Some 1,287 children across the county from birth to teenagers have received gifts – an increase on last year.

In addition, well-being bags were distributed to 180 youngsters in need of basic toiletries.

The annual appeal run by Carmarthenshire County Council helps thousands of local children

with families who can’t afford to buy gifts or toys.

Gifts are bought out of money donated by the public and given to families who, for a range of reasons, are not able to give their children a Christmas that most of us take for granted.

The council’s Cabinet Member responsible for the Toybox Appeal, Cllr Mair Stephens, said: “Once again we have been overwhelmed by the kindness of the public and ensuring these children had Christmas presents who might otherwise receive nothing or very little. This year our list was even bigger, and we had to buy an extra 1,300 gifts as more people found themselves struggling to buy for their children.

“I’m so pleased that we have been able to help every child that was on our list and put a smile on their face.”
