Further arrests made in connection with Talbot Green shooting

South Wales Police has made a further arrest as part of a murder investigation in Talbot Green.

Joanne Penney, 40, died on Sunday, March 9, after being shot in Llys Illtyd. Formal identification took place this afternoon.

Earlier today, a 20-year-old man from St. Mellons, Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

In total, six people have now been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation.

The 42-year-old man from Talbot Green arrested on Sunday has been released without charge, however he has been bailed for further enquiries following an allegation of assault.

A warrant of further detention in relation to the four people arrested in Leicestershire was granted by magistrates this afternoon.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes said:

“Detectives working on this investigation are making significant progress with their inquiries.

“Whilst this additional arrest is a significant development, the investigation into Joanne’s death is continuing and we have a team of experienced detectives and specialist staff working hard to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident.”

A distinctive coloured beige Nissan Note (BK61 ZDC) and a black Volvo XC40 (FD24 PZF) travelled from the Leicester area sometime after 10.30am on Sunday, March 9, into South Wales before leaving shortly after the incident took place.

Det Ch Supt Hughes added:

“We still want any dashcam footage, particularly from commercial vehicles, for any journeys on Sunday, including any dashcam footage or CCTV around Llys Illtyd and the nearby retail park between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Sunday March 9 which may have captured these vehicles and any witnesses.

“Thank you to everyone who has spoken to us and who has assisted us with this investigation so far.

“I would urge anyone who has information, either about Joanne’s death or what happened at the property in Llys Illtyd on Sunday evening, to do the right thing and come forward – the smallest piece of information could be of vital importance.”
