A 12-year-old Welsh-speaking farmer’s son from Carmarthenshire has been crowned World Individual Mounted Games Champion. Rowan Davies, riding his pony Blue for Amman Valley Pony Club, has also been named Britain’s Best Under-12 Rider in a remarkable season of success on the world stage.
Raised on a Carmarthenshire farm, Rowan has proudly carried his Welsh identity from local competitions to major events across the UK and Europe. His world title is the latest achievement in an outstanding campaign that has seen him represent his club, county and Wales with distinction.
The 2026 season began with victories at both the Welsh and British Individual Championships. Rowan then travelled to Germany for the World Individual Championships, securing the title of World Individual Champion.
He went on to represent Team Wales at the European Championships in La Bonde, France, helping the team win a bronze medal. At the World Pairs Championships in Corné, France, Rowan and his partner, Lucia Norton, finished as Reserve World Champions.
Rowan has also enjoyed considerable success with his county team, Dyfed Dragons, competing in five championships across Britain. The team were crowned Champions at four competitions and Reserve Champions at the fifth.
With three competitions still to come, Rowan and Blue have already completed an outstanding season. Their achievements reflect Rowan’s dedication, hard work and determination, as well as the support of everyone around him.
