South Wales and Gwent Police Unveil Victim‑Support Portal

South Wales Police and Gwent Police have today launched a new online portal designed to help victims of crime stay informed about their case, reducing the worry and frustration of not knowing what is happening and making it easier to stay connected with officers.

The portal gives victims access to clear, timely information at a time that suits them, without needing to chase updates.

We know that being a victim of crime can be an upsetting and uncertain experience. Not knowing how an investigation is progressing can add to that stress, especially when people are already dealing with the impact of what has happened. This new service is designed to provide reassurance, helping people feel more informed, supported and in control.

The portal allows victims to securely log in to view updates on their case, understand what has happened so far, and see what will happen next. They can receive notifications as their case progresses, giving them a clearer picture of developments without needing to contact officers.

Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan, from South Wales Police, said: “We are committed to keeping victims informed and supported while their case is being investigated. This portal improves how we keep people informed, providing clearer, timelier information and greater confidence in what’s happening with their case.

“It puts people first, making communication simpler, more transparent and more responsive, while recognising how important it is for victims to feel informed, reassured and supported.

“The portal complements, rather than replaces, personal contact with officers. Victims can still speak directly with us as they always have, and the service is entirely optional, allowing individuals to choose how and when they receive updates.”

Chief Constable Mark Hobrough, from Gwent Police, said: “For many people, not knowing what’s happening with their crime report can add stress at what is already a difficult time, but victims should always feel informed about their case and be reassured that our officers are carrying out a quality investigation.

“This portal is another way for us to keep people updated in a clearer, more convenient way, while still making sure personal support remains at the heart of what we do.
“It’s about giving victims control over their updates, more confidence and a better connection with officers.”

The portal will not be used in all cases, particularly where safeguarding, vulnerability, or the need for more personal engagement means direct contact is more appropriate. In these situations, officers will continue to work closely with individuals to provide the right level of support. Both forces will also continue working with victim support services and community organisations to ensure people receive the care and help they need.

Anyone who would like to find out more about the portal, understand how it works, or share feedback is encouraged to visit the South Wales Police and Gwent Police websites. Feedback will help shape and improve the service as it continues to develop.
