Restrictions aimed at tackling alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in parts of Aberystwyth, Cardigan and Lampeter will remain in place for another three years.
At a meeting held on 24 September 2026, Ceredigion County Council agreed to extend the existing Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) covering designated areas within the three town centres. The orders will continue from 20 October 2026 until 19 October 2029.
The PSPOs give police and authorised officers additional powers to deal with behaviour linked to drinking alcohol in public places when it causes nuisance, disorder or distress to others.
Within the designated areas, officers can ask people to stop drinking alcohol or hand over alcohol if it is contributing to anti-social behaviour. Anyone who refuses to comply with a reasonable request may be committing an offence.
The extension of the PSPOs is intended to help keep town centres safe, welcoming and enjoyable for residents, businesses and visitors.
Public notices explaining the extension of the orders and what they mean for local communities will be published in the local press.
Councillor Matthew Vaux, Cabinet Member for Partnerships, Housing, Legal and Governance and Public Protection, said: “As a result of the positive impact they have had on reducing alcohol related anti-social and intimidating behaviour, the current Public Spaces Protection Orders have once again been renewed across three of Ceredigion’s town centres.”
“The continued extension of these provisions will assist in ensuring our towns remain welcoming, thriving and safe places for people of all ages and backgrounds.”
