West Wales Communities Unite for Anti-Racism March and Rally in Carmarthen

People from across West Wales are being invited to join a Unity March and Rally in Carmarthen, on Saturday 17th October, to demonstrate opposition to racism and the far right.

The event is also an opportunity to celebrate Wales as a Nation of Sanctuary.

The event will begin with participants assembling at Carmarthen Park at 12 noon, before marching through the town to Nott Square, where a number of speakers will address the crowd.

The day will continue with a family-friendly rally and community event at St Peter’s Hall from 1.30pm, providing an opportunity for people to come together in solidarity and support for inclusive and welcoming communities.

The event is organised by West Wales Stand Up to Racism and Together Cymru and is backed by a broad coalition of political parties, trade unions and community groups from across West Wales, including Plaid Cymru, the Green Party, TUC Cymru, PCS, Unite, UNISON, NEU Cymru, Women Against the Far Right, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Extinction Rebellion, and many other local organisations.

Organisers say the event has been called to demonstrate that local communities are united against the racism and division promoted by the far right.

A spokesperson for West Wales Stand Up to Racism said:

“We are coming together to defend our Nation of Sanctuary and to show that our communities are stronger when we stand united. We will not allow far-right lies and attempts to divide people to undermine the values of solidarity, equality and mutual respect that define our communities.”
