A total of £40,000 has been awarded to 23 Sheds across Swansea, helping them continue providing opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills and improve their wellbeing.

The funding, provided by Swansea Council, supports a wide range of activities, equipment, training and essential running costs that help groups create welcoming Sheds where people can socialise, share interests and reduce isolation.

The latest funding round builds on the council’s long-standing support for Men’s Sheds.

Over the past seven years, Swansea Council has invested £175,000 in the initiative, helping the number of sheds across the city grow significantly and enabling hundreds of people to benefit from their activities.

Among the successful applicants was Llansamlet Men’s Shed, where funding will help members develop new practical skills through woodworking activities and support its growing ukulele group, which aims to perform in local halls and residential homes.

The Ivy’s Men’s and Women’s Shed will use its grant to run a programme of workshops covering a range of crafts and practical skills.

The project will also provide opportunities for younger adults with learning disabilities through a local partnership and help meet essential running costs to ensure the shed can continue operating.

Swansea Council Cabinet Member for Community Support, Rebecca Fogarty, said: “Men’s Sheds and similar community groups play an important role in helping people stay connected, active and involved in their local communities.

“This funding will help groups continue providing welcoming spaces where people can learn new skills, build confidence, make new friendships and support one another.

“We’ve seen first-hand the positive difference these groups make in tackling loneliness and improving wellbeing. We’re proud to have invested £175,000 in Men’s Sheds in recent years and I’m delighted we’ll be supporting 23 projects through this latest round of funding.”

The grants form part of Swansea Council’s ongoing commitment to strengthening communities and supporting the wellbeing of residents across the city.
