Small Ceredigion Village Pub Celebrates Triple Awards Success

A husband-and-wife-run village pub in rural Ceredigion is celebrating after being recognised in three prestigious hospitality awards.

Tafarn Cefn Hafod, in the small West Wales village of Gorsgoch, has been named a finalist for Best Restaurant at the UK Small Business Awards 2026, representing West Wales in the national competition.

The recognition crowns a remarkable period of success for the independently run pub, which has also been named Best Gastro Pub of the Year at the Wales Prestige Awards 2027/28 and shortlisted for Gastro Pub of the Year at the Food Awards Wales 2026.

The accolades are particularly significant for owners Sean and Charlotte Emanuel, who run the business largely as a two-person operation.

Sean serves as head chef, creating the pub’s menu of freshly prepared dishes, while Charlotte manages front-of-house operations, ensuring visitors receive the warm welcome and service for which the pub has become known.

Over recent years, Tafarn Cefn Hafod has built a reputation as both a dining destination and an important hub for the local community, regularly hosting social gatherings, local groups and special events.

Speaking about the latest recognition, Sean said:

“It’s difficult to put into words just how much this means to us. We work incredibly hard, and being recognised across three different awards competitions in such a short space of time is something we never expected.

“To have our little village pub recognised not only in Wales but now in a UK-wide Best Restaurant category is absolutely incredible.

“We’re especially proud to be representing West Wales. There are so many fantastic hospitality businesses across the country, and to see Tafarn Cefn Hafod amongst them means the world to us.

“We also want to thank our customers and local community. Their continued support, recommendations and encouragement are a huge part of why we’re able to do what we do.”

The Food Awards Wales ceremony will take place on 30 November, with the UK Small Business Awards winners due to be announced later in December.

For Sean and Charlotte, the nominations and awards are about more than trophies. They represent recognition of the dedication, passion and hard work required to sustain an independent hospitality business in rural Wales.

Based in Gorsgoch, Tafarn Cefn Hafod continues to demonstrate that small village pubs can compete successfully on both the Welsh and national stage.
