Plans for a new solar farm have been submitted for Craig y Perchyll, which extends above Glais, in Swansea.
Residents say this development will blight the environment, as the locality is home to a host of rare bird species, bats and flora, including the endangered Datewax cap mushroom.
The firms Canadian Solar and Windell Energy want to convert the land, which is equivalent to 95 football pitches, to produce 20 megawatts of electricity.
Generations of local people have enjoyed these mountains with their spectacular views of Swansea Valley, The Beacons and Swansea Bay so the area is important for the well-being and health of all who use it.
Campaigners are worried about the damaging effects on the natural world and have garnered cross-party support.
The community are in support of green energy but stresses that there are better places to start such as new houses and commercial properties, solar panels placed on roofs and not Glais Mountain. Views should be made known to PEDW during the application stage.
