Plaid Cymru has accused Labour of harming children in relation to Labour’s school transport guidance.
Plaid Cymru spokesperson for Education, Heledd Fychan MS said:
“The current school transport guidance set by the Labour Welsh Government is letting down children across Wales and is an active barrier to accessing education. We know that some children have to walk over an hour in the rain – some on dual carriageways, through industrial estates or quiet lanes, and up and down hills. In the dark winter months, the situation poses an even greater risk to children.
“At a time where we’re already concerned about the growing attainment gap, a rapid decline in school attendance and a cost of living crisis affecting children across Wales, this decision will harm our children even more. The Labour Welsh Government must reconsider its decision and finally take action to ensure all children have access to education – a fundamental right for all.”
