A Community Initiative for a Cleaner, Healthier Village

On November 1st, 2025, the residents of Cynwyl Elfed, Carmarthenshire, proudly launched a new air quality monitoring project at the heart of the village. This community-funded initiative aims to provide accurate, real-time data on local air pollution levels, helping residents, the local council, the Welsh Government, and motorists better understand and manage air quality in our area.

Real-Time Air Quality Updates

This page will provide daily air quality updates from our monitoring station located in the centre of Cynwyl Elfed. The data is automatically uploaded and shared globally, feeding into existing Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council air quality databases, as well as international networks that track environmental conditions worldwide.

Monitor Air Quality on Your Phone

Residents can check live readings anytime using the IQAir app:
• Visit iqair.com
• Or download the IQAir Visual App from the App Store or Google Play

With the app, you can monitor real-time air quality levels right from your phone, whether you’re at home, on your commute, or planning outdoor activities.

Why It Matters

The project’s goal is to help identify sources of pollution, including traffic, nearby building sites, and fires, and guide the community toward practical solutions such as improved traffic management and local awareness campaigns.

Lorries and cars create a bottleneck in the centre of the village often on stop for long periods with engines idling. Residents have had enough and want traffic management systems put in place and alternative routes planned by hauliers. Heavy traffic also passes by the school which sits at the roadside.

Future plans include expanding the project with additional monitors as part of a local school initiative, fostering environmental education and community engagement.

 A Collective Effort

This initiative was entirely funded by the residents of Cynwyl Elfed, reflecting our shared commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring a healthier future for all who live, work, and travel through our village.

Together, we’re taking steps toward cleaner air and a more sustainable community.
