School Closures in Cardiff Prompt Investigation

Police are continuing to investigate threats made against two secondary schools in Cardiff after messages warned of potential violence involving weapons.

Officers from South Wales Police received a live chat message at around 8.30pm on Sunday, March 15, which contained threats to harm people at Llanishen High School and Eastern High School in Cardiff.

According to police, the information suggested that an individual intended to attend the schools while in possession of weapons. The report is now being actively investigated as officers work to determine both the credibility of the threat and where it originated.

Following discussions between South Wales Police and Cardiff Council, a precautionary decision was made to close both schools.

Authorities said the move was taken to prioritise the safety of pupils, staff and the wider school communities.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said the decision was “not taken lightly”, but was necessary while the situation is assessed.

“At this time, there is no evidence or report of any persons attending either school posing a threat,” the spokesperson said.

Despite this, officers confirmed that increased police patrols will be visible in the surrounding areas while the investigation and precautionary searches continue.

Police also acknowledged that the situation is likely to cause concern among parents and residents.

“We understand this is causing concern for parents and the community,” the spokesperson added. “It is important that we fully assess the information and ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.”

Further updates are expected once investigators have established the source of the threat.

Local politicians have also expressed concern about the incident, stressing the importance of ensuring pupils and staff feel safe within schools.

Authorities are urging members of the public to rely on official updates while the investigation continues.
