New Evening Welsh Conversation Sessions Launched in Aberystwyth to Support Learners

An evening initiative aimed at helping Welsh language learners build their confidence in the community is launching in Aberystwyth.

Organised by Cered: Menter Iaith Ceredigion, the inaugural ‘Sesiwn Siarad Yr Hen Lew Du’ will take place on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, at 7:00pm at the Yr Hen Lew Du pub. The event is free and open to fluent speakers and learners of all levels who want to socialise in a relaxed environment.

The initiative addresses a gap in local language provisions, specifically targeting individuals who work during the day. While several daytime coffee mornings operate across the area, evening opportunities for practical language use have previously been limited.

In a statement, Elin Mai Williams, Cered Development Officer and session organiser, emphasised the need for more accessible timing. She stated that the organisation is keen to ensure accessible opportunities for learners across the county, noting the importance of organising evening activities to achieve this goal.
