Murder investigation launched following collision between car and off-road bike

Officers were called to Pen Cae Crwn Road, Gorseinon, Swansea at 12:58pm today (Thursday July 9) following a report of a collision involving a car and an off-road bike.

Paramedics attended and one man was pronounced dead at the scene. Whilst formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of an 18-year-old from Swansea has been informed. A second man, aged 19, has been taken to hospital with injuries.

An 18-year-old man from Morriston has been arrested on suspicion of murder, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving a motor vehicle whilst unfit through drugs and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Danielle Thorne of the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “I understand the concern in the local community as a result of this investigation and want to thank them for their continued patience and understanding at this time. There is significant police activity in the area, and will continue to be for several hours, however we are working at pace to conduct enquiries in this complex investigation.

“Pen Cae Crwn Road is currently closed between Cecil Road from the junction of High Street to Pen-Cae Crwn Road to the junction of Frampton Road. Brighton Road, Brynteg Road and Pontardulais Road are also closed. We have significant resources working to lift these road closures as soon as possible. I ask residents in need urgent egress or entry to please speak to an officer at the scene who will support you as required.
