Four Carmarthenshire parks and one university campus have once again been named among the best green spaces in Wales, as Keep Wales Tidy today announces the 2026/27 Green Flag Awards.
Bishops Park, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park, Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park and Pembrey Country Park as well as University of Wales Trinity Saint David Carmarthen Campus all achieved Green Flag Award status for 2026/27.
This means they have achieved the highest standards in being safe and secure, well-maintained and clean, having excellent environmental management, and being a welcoming place.
They are among 93 sites across Wales which achieved full Green Flag Award status in the 2026/27 Green Flag Awards. This is an internationally recognised award which celebrates the very best parks and green spaces, so that visitors know wherever there is a Green Flag, they’re visiting an exceptional place with the highest standards.
Bishops Park, the former private gardens of the Bishops of St Davids also known as Parc Yr Esgob, in Abergwili, Carmarthen, also received a further accolade. It was once again awarded Green Site Heritage Accreditation in recognition of how it protects and brings its history to life, one of just 14 sites across Wales to receive the award.
Green Heritage Site Accreditation is a prestigious supplementary accolade, supported by Cadw, given to parks and green spaces that achieve the standard of a Green Flag Award and who also successfully manage, preserve, and promote their unique historic features.
In addition to this, 12 green spaces in Carmarthenshire have achieved Green Flag Community Awards. These awards celebrate high-quality, volunteer-run spaces such as allotments, community gardens, and local nature reserves.
Six of these locations – Burry Port Community Garden, Danyrhelyg Community Garden, Footholdcymru Community Garden, Friends of Betws, Llanfallteg Memorial Playing Field, and Pontyberem Park – all retained their awards for another year, while a further six, Alltwalis Community Garden, Cegin Hedyn, Gardd Gwen, Hendy Nature Trail & Community Garden, Tycroes Park & Woodland and Yr Ardd, were named as Green Flag Community Award winners for the first time.
A total of 237 green spaces across Wales have achieved this accolade for 2026/27, helping Wales retain the honour for the third year running of holding more Green Flag Community Awards than any other country delivering the Green Flag scheme in the world.
In Wales, the Green Flag Awards are run by Keep Wales Tidy, and supported by the Welsh Government.
Owen Derbyshire, Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive, said:
“We’re delighted to see so many green spaces across Carmarthenshire recognised in this year’s Green Flag Awards. From flagship parks and community gardens to playing fields and even a university campus, it’s clear the county prioritises quality across all kinds of green spaces, so they can be enjoyed by everyone.”Congratulations to the six sites who have achieved Community Award status for the first time. These awards reflect the dedication, time and skills of volunteers who work hard to ensure these green spaces can be enjoyed by the whole community.
“Green spaces play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities. We’d like to thank everyone involved in caring for these sites for their unwavering commitment to nurturing welcoming, inclusive green spaces.”
