Healthcare apprentices, Hanna Griffiths from Pencader, Carmarthen and Teleri Evans from Llanybydder, Ceredigion, (pictured) have been recognised for their efforts at this year’s B-WBL Awards in Swansea.
B-WBL Awards is an annual event to highlight the dedication and achievements of Welsh language learners from across south and west Wales.
Both Hanna and Teleri are apprentices with Hywel Dda University Health Board. Hanna, who works in Cadog Ward at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen, won the Overall Winner of the Welsh Language Award. Teleri works in the Outpatients Department in Glangwili Hospital and was awarded runner-up in the Inspirational Use of Welsh Language Award.
Nicola Fourie, Apprenticeship Academy Coordinator for the Health Board said: “On behalf of the Apprenticeship Academy, we are incredibly proud of Hanna and Teleri for their fantastic achievements.
“Using Welsh every day is vital, particularly for our Welsh-speaking patients, and it helps to improve their experiences in a hospital or clinical environment.”
“Hanna and Teleri have shown outstanding passion for promoting and using the Welsh language, within the workplace and throughout their college studies. Their enthusiasm and commitment inspire others to use, learn and embrace the Welsh Language in everyday life.”
Lucy Breckon, Work Based Learning Manager (Health, Care and Commercial Enterprises) at Pembrokeshire College said: “Hanna and Teleri’s success is thoroughly deserved and reflects the commitment they have shown throughout their apprenticeships. They have embraced every opportunity to develop and use their Welsh language skills, actively implementing the ‘More than Just Words’ Active Offer on the wards, helping to ensure patients are offered the opportunity to communicate in Welsh.”
Janice Morgan, Welsh Language Development Officer at Pembrokeshire College said: “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Hanna and Teleri. Their enthusiasm for the Welsh language has been evident from the start, and they have made the most of every opportunity as Welsh Language Ambassadors. They have been a credit to the College and have truly shone in their roles.”
Hanna also won the New Talent Award at the recent Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol awards in Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. The awards highlight learners, apprentices and educators who have made a significant contribution to Welsh-medium and bilingual tertiary education over the past year.
