Clase Primary School has been praised for its welcoming, inclusive environment and strong sense of community in its latest Estyn inspection report.
Inspectors highlighted how the headteacher Dan Jones, staff and governors have established “a clear vision that drives a welcoming and inclusive culture where diversity and individual differences matter”.
This approach is creating “a safe and supportive environment where most pupils flourish”, including those with additional learning needs and pupils in the school’s specialist teaching facilities.
The report also recognises the school’s strong relationships and unique ethos, noting that the well-embedded “Cwtsh” approach helps pupils “feel valued, behave well and develop a secure sense of belonging”.
Inspectors found that the school offers “a meaningful range of experiences that engage most pupils and supports progress”, with teachers planning authentic learning opportunities that help pupils develop skills across all areas.
The school’s work to support pupils’ development is also highlighted, with staff responding effectively to pupils’ needs and supporting progress in key skills. Many pupils also develop sound digital and numeracy skills.
Leadership at the school was recognised as a key strength. Inspectors said leaders “drive improvement through strong strategy, professional learning and effective use of resources”, creating a positive environment for both pupils and staff.
The report also praises the school’s strong links with families and the wider community. It notes that leaders have placed the school at the heart of the community, building “strong, trusting relationships with families” and ensuring many see it as “a trusted, supportive hub”.
Mr Jones said: “We’re incredibly proud that Estyn has recognised the inclusive, supportive environment we’ve worked hard to build at Clase Primary. Our ‘Cwtsh’ ethos underpins everything we do, and it’s wonderful to see the positive impact this is having on our pupils, families and wider community. I’d like to thank all our staff for the commitment and dedication they show every day.”
