Ann Davies MP has welcomed the Welsh Government’s announcement of more than £1 billion in multi-year funding for Welsh agriculture, describing it as “the kind of certainty farmers have been calling for years.”
The funding package will provide £340 million annually through the Sustainable Farming Scheme until March 2030, ending the cycle of year-to-year funding decisions that has often made long-term planning difficult for farm businesses.
The funding settlement includes £238 million annually for the Universal Layer of the Sustainable Farming Scheme and £102 million for Optional and Collaborative actions, maintaining support for family farms while also encouraging environmental improvements and collaborative projects.
As a farmer herself, Ann Davies said the announcement recognises a reality that every farming family understands: successful farming depends on the ability to plan ahead.
The MP for Caerfyrddin welcomed the announcement as particularly important for her constituency, where agriculture remains one of the most important industries and a cornerstone of local community life.
Last month, the Plaid Cymru Government also announced plans to review the bureaucratic burden placed on farmers. The review will hear directly from farmers and farming businesses to identify where duplication can be reduced and where unnecessary paperwork can be cut.

“As someone who has spent my life in the sector, I know that farmers do not work to annual timelines. Decisions made today often won’t bear fruit for several years. Farming is built on long-term thinking, and for the first time in many years, Welsh farmers have greater certainty about what support will be available in the years ahead. That gives businesses the confidence to invest, innovate and plan for the future. This investment will strengthen family farms, support food production, and help rural communities prosper for years to come.
“Farming is woven into the fabric of our communities in Wales, supporting thousands of jobs, sustaining family businesses and helping to maintain the Welsh language and culture that are such a vital part of our identity. These are facts commonly ignored in Westminster, but at last we have a Welsh Goverment that understands the sector’s all-round importance.
“The Plaid Cymru Government is taking action to put the sector on a more stable footing while also reviewing the bureaucratic burden placed on farmers. Farmers can be assured that this government is on their side.”
