Congratulations to Carmarthenshire athletes Emma Finucane, Jessica Roberts, Rory Gravelle, Steffan Lloyd and Steffan James for their success at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Record-breaking Carmarthenshire Sports Personality of the Year winner, Emma Finucane, became the first track cyclist ever to win four gold medals in a single Commonwealth Games in the Women’s Team Sprint, Women’s Sprint, Women’s 1000m Time Trial and Women’s Keirin and led Wales into the closing ceremony of the Games.
Track cyclist Jessica Roberts brought home a silver medal in the Women’s 25km Points Race and a bronze medal in the Women’s Team Pursuit.
Steffan James achieved a bronze medal at his first ever Commonwealth Games, representing Wales in the Para Mixed Pairs bowls following a closely fought contest.
Former Queen Elizabeth High School pupil, Rory Gravelle represented Wales as part of the Men’s Pursuit squad, securing fourth place, as well as competing in the Men’s Elimination Race.
Steffan Lloyd competed in four track cycling events including the Men’s Team Sprint, where Team Wales recorded a time of 44.075, the Keirin, the Individual Sprint and the 1000m Time Trial where he finished sixth.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans, said:
