Swansea’s Free Grassroots Music Event Returns

Amplitude, a free two-day event celebrating grassroots music, returns to the iconic Swansea amphitheatre on 22 and 23 August.

Heading into its third year, the event features a diverse lineup of local and national talent, ranging from dynamic funk and blues to sharp-witted post-punk and rock. The revamped amphitheatre, which recently benefited from investment through the Welsh Government Brilliant Basics scheme, including sustainability improvements to the power supply and the installation of a new sail roof, provides the perfect setting for audiences, rain or shine.

Headlining on Saturday, Welsh soul-pop sensation M0LI will bring her powerhouse vocals, infectious pop hooks and vibrant presence to the stage. Before the headline set, enjoy an afternoon packed with live music from AKiMBO, Papa Jupe’s T.C., Zac and the New Men, The Strange Pursuits and Old Moll.

Sunday delivers an eclectic mix of rock, blues, indie and soul from acts including Buttonsville, JD3 (John Dignam Trio), The Modern Rogues, Virgil and the Accelerators and Waterpistol. Closing the weekend in style are Cardiff-based band The Pepperseeds, fronted by Jamaican-British singer Dionne Bennett. With their irresistible blend of soul, funk and feel-good energy, they promise the perfect finale to a weekend of outstanding live music.

Councillor Elliot King, Cabinet Member for Culture, Human Rights and Equalities at Swansea Council, said: “Swansea Council is thrilled to welcome residents and visitors alike back for another year of sensational free entertainment that shines a spotlight on some of Wales’ most exciting emerging artists.

“Swansea is fortunate to have a vibrant grassroots music scene, supported year-round by the many venues, promoters, artists and volunteers who help local talent flourish. Amplitude complements that fantastic work by providing another platform for emerging musicians to showcase their talent and connect with new audiences in a unique outdoor setting.

“Following recent investment in partnership with the Brilliant Basics scheme, we are delighted to see the city’s historic amphitheatre revitalised and once again hosting community-focused events that celebrate and support our thriving arts and music scene.”
