Year 11 students in Swansea are celebrating results which are again above those for Wales as a whole.
The figures show 23% of city pupils gained A* and A grades in their WJEC subjects, compared with 19.6% across Wales.
More than 65% of students achieved the higher grades of A* to C in 28 of the 40 different subjects offered.
A total of 97.7% of GCSE subject entries in Swansea were passed (grades A* to G), compared with the Welsh pass rate of 96.8%.
Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Learning, Robert Smith, said:
“Many congratulations to all the pupils who have done so well and whose hard work has been rewarded today.
“These achievements also reflect the dedication and commitment of our teachers, school staff and families, who have supported young people throughout their studies.
“I would congratulate all students, including those completing vocational and alternative qualifications which provide important routes into further education, training and employment.
“There are many opportunities available to young people in Swansea and I wish every student the very best for the future.”
