Long-term plans to build more than 190 new homes on a well-known brownfield site in Maesteg have been given the go-ahead.
The £41.8m redevelopment project at Ewenny Road, Maesteg, has been approved in order to bring 192 homes in what developers describe as a transformative project.
The large former factory site is located adjacent to the Oakwood Estate in Maesteg just a short walk from Ewenny Road railway station where it extends to nearly 20 acres.
It was prepared for development with £3.5m in funding from Bridgend County Borough Council and the Cardiff Capital Region.
Outline planning approval was first granted by Bridgend Council’s planning committee in 2024 despite concerns from some residents over a lack of access roads.
The project is being delivered by Sylfaen, a commercially-driven development subsidiary of Bridgend-based housing association Valleys to
Coast, in partnership with house builders Tai Derw Developments Ltd.
A spokesman for Valleys to Coast said: “Designed to create a diverse and thriving neighbourhood the mixed-tenure community will comprise 192 homes tailored to various needs including 35 homes for social rent, 19 affordable rent homes, 54 shared ownership properties, and 84 homes for open-market sale.
“Future residents will also be able to enjoy a community garden, public open spaces, and a fully equipped children’s play area on-site.
“The scheme will deliver substantial community benefits through a contribution of more than £100,000 to support local initiatives.”
Work on-site is now expected to begin in October 2026 with the first homes expected to be ready by April 2027.
Phased construction will then continue through to the targeted completion date in 2031.
