Kidwelly Carnival a Roaring Success

The Kidwelly Welfare Committee outdid themselves with a spectacular carnival celebration that thrilled the town’s residents and visitors alike. The beloved tradition, dating back to 1917, saw the Swansea Pipe Band lead the procession, dignitaries including the newly appointed under secretary for Wales Dame Nia Griffith MP, Mayor of Llanelli Cllr John Prosser, followed by an array of colourful floats, exuberant individuals in elaborate costumes including a host of characters from the Little Mermaid/Under the Quay, plenty of Oompa Loompas from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Pacman, Cupcakes, Wizards from Harry Potter, World War Two refugees, the Kidwelly Scouts as cubs, lions and explorers.

There were Stormtroopers, Batman and Robin, Sonic the Hedgehog, Knights and Princesses, stilt walkers and many more.

A nostalgic parade of classic cars brought up the rear which included a Triumph Stag, two Ford Escorts, MG, Spitfire, Audi Quattro, a Jaguar, a Vauxhall and a VW Camper Flatbed complete with an excellent singer onboard.

Kidwelly’s Carnival celebrations got underway in style, with dry weather drawing out crowds to enjoy a lively atmosphere and a diverse range of entertainment throughout the town. The highlight of the day was the performances on the big stage in Glan Yr Afon, which featured a variety of acts, while buskers and musicians added to the festive vibe.

The day began at St Mary’s Church, where local duo Bex and Cat from Zirenz hosted a karaoke and ukulele session ‘Sing n’ Strum Along,’ inviting musicians and music enthusiasts alike to join in and sing along.

The Kidwelly Carnival, held annually in the town of Kidwelly, was a roaring success. The event was meticulously organised by a team of dedicated volunteers and local businesses, resulting in a vibrant and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
