A primary school in Porthcawl is celebrating after being named a finalist in the prestigious 2026 School Song UK Songwriting Competition.

Newton Primary School has made it through to the national final with a song that is entirely original and written by the school community.

Teacher Henley Jenkins said:

“Our song is 100% original and we are the only school from Wales in the final.

“We have made the final for the last three consecutive years but we have not been fortunate enough to win the competition.

“This year the organisers are allowing the public to vote alongside the judging panel. We are the smallest school in the competition, so every vote will count.

“It would be fantastic if a school from Wales was able to win for the first time in the history of the competition.”

The school is urging residents, former pupils, families and supporters across Wales to get behind the campaign, cast their vote and help Newton Primary bring the trophy home.

Those wishing to support the school can vote online by visiting:

Voters should select the tick next to Newton Primary School’s video. Registration is optional, and supporters can continue as guests if they prefer.

Votes close on October 30.
