A man from Swansea has been jailed after pleading guilty to robbery.

34-year-old Shane Burne, from Fforestfach, entered a series of Swansea businesses, including corner shops, armed with a knife before threatening staff and making off with items without payment.

His offences took place in Manselton, Brynhyfryd, and Waunarlwydd in August and September this year.

Burne pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery on October 9.

He has now been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Detective Inspector Thomas Richardson said:

“Shane Burne deliberately targeted local convenience stores where staff were working alone, and he took advantage of that.

“Whilst wearing a face covering, he brandished knives at the victims, which will have undoubtably caused them a great deal of fear.

“Even one instance of knife crime is one too many, and tackling the harm that knife crime causes is an absolute priority for South Wales Police.

“It is pleasing to see Shane Burne get a heavy sentence as punishment.”
