Workers and students set to benefit from changes to bus networks in South and West Wales

WORKERS and students in Swansea are set to be benefit from changes happening to the bus network in south and west Wales.

Improved reliability and additional buses are among a raft of changes being made by First Cymru in the new year.

The bus operator has announced changes to 14 services from January 7, including improved late night buses to Swansea Train Station and True Student accommodation, changes to services to and from the city’s park and ride, and a new city centre service at peak times in the mornings and afternoons.

Among the changes are:

The timetables for services 31 (Swansea to Morriston Hospital) and 33 (Swansea to Frederick Place) are being revised to complement each other and provide a more consistent service through Trallwn and Bonymaen every 30 minutes.
There will be an additional morning and afternoon journey on service 34 to the Swansea Enterprise Park in Llansamlet to assist workers. This will also result in some minor changes to the morning timetable of both Swansea’s Park and Ride Services (PR1 and PR2).
Service 6 (Swansea to Port Tennant), which was recently rerouted to cover more areas, including Grenfell Park, will operate every 60 minutes instead of every 90 minutes.
There will be revisions to the timetables for services 55 (Neath to Pontneddfechan), and 58 (Neath to Banwen) to improve reliability.
The timetable for service 90 (Bay Campus to city centre) will be amended to include late night buses, and will travel to True Student accommodation on trips towards the campus. This improved service will replace service 93.
A new service, 90a, will be introduced at peak times in the mornings and afternoons, connecting Bay Campus with the city centre via the Fabian Way Park and Ride.
Changes are being made to the timetable for service 91 (Singleton Campus to city centre and Bay Campus) to reduce the number of under-used buses
The frequency of service 92 (Singleton Campus to city centre) will increase from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes, and will cover more areas including St Helen’s Road, Swansea Bus Station, Quay Parade, Student Roost, True Student Accommodation and Swansea Train Station. This improved service will replace service 94 and offer late night journeys too.

First Cymru’s Commercial Director Rob Pymm said: “We’ve looked at our routes in Cymru, and we’ve made some positive changes to improve our services.

“We will continue to monitor customer numbers, and where changes may be needed we will, once again, consult with local authorities to understand the needs of local communities.”
