Caerphilly Council Shortlisted for 3 Welsh Local Government Awards

A programme of retrofit improvements to Council homes across the borough has also been shortlisted in the ‘Leading Innovation’ category. Titled ‘Innovation Beyond Technology: Redefining the Purpose of Retrofit’, the project showcases how successful decarbonisation and climate adaptation can deliver far more than environmental benefits, improving residents’ quality of life while placing communities at the heart of change.

The Council’s Employment Support Team has been shortlisted in the ‘Improving in Partnership’ category in recognition of its collaborative approach to employability support. Working closely with partners, the team has delivered positive outcomes for residents while helping to strengthen communities and support local economic growth.

The Welsh Local Government Awards celebrate the innovation, commitment and public service of council teams working to improve people’s lives across Wales.

This year’s awards form part of celebrations marking 30 years since the creation of Wales’s 22 unitary councils.

The winners will be announced at the WLGA Annual Conference at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, on 17 September.

Councillor Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “This recognition is about far more than awards; it is about the positive impact we are delivering for residents across the borough.

From developing innovative, sustainable homes to helping people into employment and improving the homes and communities they live in, these projects show what can be achieved when residents are placed at the heart of everything we do.

I am incredibly proud of the passion and commitment shown across Caerphilly Council in driving meaningful change for our communities.”

Councillor Anthony Hunt, WLGA Leader, added “Most people can name a handful of council services, but councils across Wales are responsible for more than 700. Much of that work happens quietly, every day, without people seeing it.

“You might see the school bus arrive, your recycling collected or a library open, but you probably won’t see all the people and expertise that made those things happen, or the plethora of services that go on behind the scenes to help people live more fulfilling, dignified and independent lives.

“These projects are a brilliant reminder of the difference councils make every day. They celebrate the creativity, commitment and hard work of council teams across Wales, and everyone shortlisted should feel enormously proud of what they have achieved. Local Government staff are stars in our communities, and these awards celebrate the difference they make.”
