Popular S4C football gameshow Tekkers scores a hat-trick third series, but with the new installment the stakes are higher.
Tekkers: Cwpan Cymru returns to Stwnsh, S4C’s service for children, on Friday 4th September at 5.15pm. The box set, featuring ALL episodes, drops on the same day on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.
16 primary schools from across Wales compete in the latest series, which for the first time has a knockout element.
The change in format adds tension and fierce competition, from Prestatyn to Penarth and Aberaeron to Cross Keys. The top four winners with the highest scores from the opening round will advance to the semi-final stage. Then, the winning semi-finalists compete in the Grand Final. Only one school can be crowned the first ever Tekkers: Cwpan Cymru champions.
Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Llangennech and Ysgol Gorslas are two of the teams vying for a place in the highly contested latter stages and to ultimately win the trophy.
Presenters Heledd Anna, Lloyd Lewis and Huw Owen return to lead the teams through wacky and fun football themed games.
Each game tests the young footballers’ skills – or Tekkers – from passing to dribbling, shooting and goal keeping.
Lloyd Lewis says, “This is our very own World Cup competition format. Which school will be the ultimate champion at the end of the series? It’s all to play for as teams from all over Wales descend on the Tekkers stadium. Before crowning the champions, the teams will need to tackle new games including a goalkeeping challenge whilst wearing zorbs, the colourful crossbar challenge and a penalty shoot-out against a giant darts board.”
The semi-finals kick off on S4C on Friday 30th October, before the grand final is set to be broadcast on Friday 13th November.
Also, a special festive edition of Tekkers will feature in the S4C schedules over Christmas. Caernarfon school Ysgol Maesincla tackle Ysgol Y Castell from Caerphilly for the Tekkers Christmas Trophy.
Tekkers is a series that has created a buzz here in Wales. It will also be seen soon on the TG4 channel in Ireland as they have bought the exciting format from Boom Cymru.
