Council agrees to re-configure nursery education provision in Ammanford

Carmarthenshire County Council has today (Wednesday 10 June 2026) agreed proposals to re-configure nursery education provision in the Ammanford area at its meeting of Full Council.

The changes will extend the age range at Ysgol Bro Banw and Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman from 4-11 to 3-11 as well as discontinuing Ammanford Nursery School.

This decision follows consultation with parents, governors, teachers and the wider school community.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said: “Today’s decision will modernise education provision in Ammanford, enabling pupils to attend Ysgol Bro Banw and Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman from three years of age.

This will allow Carmarthenshire County Council to deliver a more balanced education provision in Ammanford, in line with other schools across Carmarthenshire.”

These proposals follow a decision by the Council’s Cabinet in March 2024 to remove the “Rising 4s” policy from 1 September 2025, with children instead starting full-time education at the beginning of the term following their fourth birthday.
