Bridgend Begins Upgrade of Ticket Machines Across Council‑Run Car Parks

Work is scheduled to upgrade a number of parking ticket machines at council- run car parks in Bridgend county borough over the coming weeks.

The work is set to begin at car parks in Bridgend on September 8 before moving to Porthcawl and Rest Bay from September 15 with each of the five locations expected to take two or three days to complete.

A freedom of information request made by the Local Democracy Reporting Service in 2025 showed the local authority made an overall income of £995,450 from all council-run car parks in the 2024-25 financial year.

When speaking of the latest works a council spokesman said: “The improvements will make the machines easier to use and more accessible for residents and visitors while also meeting the latest Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements by being placed at accessible locations and heights within the car parks.

“No major disruption is expected however some machines may be temporarily unavailable while the work is taking place.

“PayByPhone will remain available and motorists can use the app or call PayByPhone directly to pay for parking.”

The work will take place at the following Bridgend county car parks:

  • Bowls Hall, Bridgend
  • Bridgend Life Centre Pool Car Park (rear car park)
  • Tondu Road, Bridgend
  • Rest Bay Car Park
  • Hillsboro Car Park, Porthcawl
