Couple have lucky escape after tree falls on car on A484

A couple had a lucky escape after a tree fell on their car as they were travelling along the A484 just after Bronwydd.

The car was flattened by the weight of the tree but incredibly the two motorists a man and a woman escaped unharmed.

One witness who was travelling in the opposite direction said that they stopped and rushed to try and help the couple.

This is one of a number of incidents in recent weeks where the road has been closed due to trees falling.

One local resident who did not wish to be named said that it was ‘disgraceful’ that local land owners were ‘negligent’ in land management. The resident asked why the local authority was not doing more to ensure trees along the road were made safe.

The resident said: “We have already had one terrible disaster where a young man was killed. Now we have another incident where two people came within a whisker of losing their lives. This is the main arterial road into Carmarthen and it is closed on so many occasions. It adds so much extra time to people’s journeys to work and more importantly to any emergency service vehicles trying to get to and from the hospital.”

The alternative route over Blaenycoed is also closed due to a landslide. Some drivers at the scene were confused as to which direction they should travel to reach Cardigan.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Police were called just after 3.40pm, Sunday 19th November, to reports that a tree had fallen and hit a car on the A484 road between Bronwydd and Carmarthen.
No injuries reported.

“The road was closed and reopened at about 5.55pm.”
