Carmarthen Kings produced a perfect unbeaten run to win the senior title at the Basketball Wales 3×3 Summer Tour in Swansea, with Kings player Tal Remec also named MVP of the tournament.
Playing at Victoria Park on Saturday 15 August, the Carmarthen Kings entry won all eight of its games, scoring 103 points across the tournament before overcoming Bricks R Us 14–12 in a closely fought final.
The four-man squad featured Carmarthen Kings players Tal Remec and George Spencer, alongside Ishola Adamson of Ammanford and Ashley Pearce of Bristol Hurricanes.
Kings progressed through the tournament unbeaten before producing one of their most convincing performances in the knockout stages, defeating The Bricklayers 12–4 in the semi-final.
That set up a much tighter final against Bricks R Us, but Carmarthen held their nerve to secure a 14–12 victory and bring the Swansea senior 3×3 trophy back to Carmarthenshire.
The victory capped a particularly memorable tournament for Remec, who was named the event’s Most Valuable Player.
Remec said:
“I’ve wanted to win this trophy for a while. We’ve come close over the last few years, so to finally get it done feels really good.
“I’ve worked hard over the summer on my game and this weekend it felt like everything just clicked.
“We had a great group, played really well together and kept finding ways to win. To go unbeaten, win the tournament and then be named MVP as well makes it a pretty special day.”
The Swansea tournament formed part of the Basketball Wales 3×3 Summer Tour and attracted teams from across Wales, with competitions taking place from junior age groups through to senior basketball.
The 3×3 format is a fast-paced version of basketball played on one half-court with three players on court and one substitute. It has developed rapidly internationally and has been an Olympic sport since the Tokyo Games.
For Carmarthen Kings, the Swansea victory adds to a period of growing competitive success for the club and provides another boost as it continues developing both senior and junior basketball in Carmarthenshire.
The club is based at UWTSD Sports Centre in Carmarthen and is continuing to expand opportunities for local players to train and compete.
