Carmarthenshire County Council has commenced a consultation period to amend the Welsh language provision across four primary schools in the county, changing them from dual-language to Welsh language schools.
If approved, the changes would allow children attending Ysgol Bro Banw, Ysgol Griffith Jones, Ysgol Llandybie and Ysgol Llangynnwr to access mainly Welsh language education, rather than a mixture of both English and Welsh language education.
The consultations close on 20 October 2026.
Parents, carers, staff, Governors, members of the wider school community and other stakeholders are invited to share their views as part of the consultation process online, via e-mail or by post to:

Cabinet Member for Education and Welsh Language, Cllr Glynog Davies said:
“If agreed, this proposal will ensure that children currently attending dual language schools Ysgol Bro Banw, Ysgol Griffith Jones, Ysgol Llandybie and Ysgol Llangynnwr will have increased access to Welsh language education.
Learning Welsh from a young age gives children the best possible foundation to become confident bilingual speakers and creates new opportunities for them both inside and outside the classroom.”
This forms part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Welsh in Education Policy (WESP) which outlines its vision for a bilingual Carmarthenshire.
Following the consultation period, a report will be presented to Cabinet for a decision.
