Man Arrested after Body of Woman found in Freezer

A 60-year-old man has been charged following the discovery of an elderly woman’s body inside a freezer at a residential property in Porthcawl earlier this week.

South Wales Police were called to a house on Poplar Crescent at around 1:45 pm on Tuesday, 17 February, after concerns were raised about the welfare of a woman at the address. Officers conducting enquiries found the body of a woman in her 80s inside a freezer at the property.

Charge and Police Statement

Following the discovery, Christopher Phillips, 60, from Porthcawl, was charged with preventing a lawful burial, a serious offence that can include the concealment of a body or failure to dispose of remains appropriately under UK law.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed the charging, adding that the investigation into the circumstances of the woman’s death remains ongoing. No further details about the cause of death have been released, and police have not publicly confirmed any relationship between Mr Phillips and the deceased.

Ongoing Investigation

Forensic officers were reported to still be examining the scene in the days following the discovery, as detectives work to establish how long the woman had been at the property and the full circumstances leading to her death.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact South Wales Police as enquiries continue.
