Community groups across Carmarthenshire have made a significant impact on local people and places thanks to securing more than £6 million of investment through the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) Sustainable Communities Programme.
Over the past three years, the programme has supported 96 projects across Carmarthenshire, helping local groups and organisations improve facilities, strengthen community engagement and address local challenges. Funding has supported a wide range of initiatives, including improving access to services, enhancing sports and leisure facilities, tackling poverty, promoting the circular economy, celebrating heritage and culture, and delivering environmental and green projects. Together, these initiatives have responded to local needs, created lasting benefits for residents and helped build stronger, more resilient communities across the county.
Projects supported through the programme have included the Dolen Teifi community transport initiative, Pethau Pawb’s Library of Things, improvements to facilities at Ferryside Lifeboat Station, and upgrades to children’s play areas and local sports facilities. These are just a few examples of the many projects that have benefited from the fund and made a positive difference in communities across Carmarthenshire.
The success of the programme has been made possible by the dedication and commitment of community groups, volunteers and local organisations who have worked tirelessly to bring projects to life and maximise the impact of this funding.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans, said:

While the Sustainable Communities Programme has now come to an end, a range of funding opportunities, advice and support services remain available for community groups and organisations looking to develop future projects.
