Thanks to the funding, Shopmobility Carmarthen has acquired four brand-new electric scooters, replaced essential mobility equipment parts, upgraded its IT systems, and developed a new website to better connect with users across the region.
Ann Davies MP, a longstanding advocate for inclusive access and mobility, praised the team’s dedication and the impact of the service on local residents.
“Shopmobility plays a vital role in ensuring that people of all ages and abilities can remain active, independent, and engaged in their communities. It’s a pleasure to support a project that is improving everyday life for so many,” she said.
During her visit, Ann Davies MP toured the premises, observed demonstrations of the new scooters, and gained insight into the daily support Shopmobility provides to residents and visitors in Carmarthen.
Ian Williams, Chair of Shopmobility Carmarthen, expressed his appreciation:
“This funding has come at just the right time. With demand for our services growing, the new equipment and technology will make a real difference to the people who rely on us. We’re incredibly thankful for the Lottery’s support and for Ann Davies MP taking the time to officially launch the project and highlight the importance of accessible transport and mobility support.”
He added:
“We would also like to acknowledge the long-standing support of Carmarthenshire County Council. Their ongoing partnership has been vital in helping us deliver and maintain accessible services for the people of Carmarthen.”
The new website, launching later this month, will offer easy online booking, volunteering opportunities, and up-to-date information on mobility services available in Carmarthen.
