Ambitious plans may lead to Public Ownership of Llanelli Buildings

Cwmpas is an organisation that amongst other objectives, aims to “increase the proportion of the economy made up by social enterprises, co-operatives and employee-owned businesses”

A free-to-attend public meeting is being held in Llanelli library on Wednesday 24 April 2024 between 12 noon and 3 pm.  Amongst proposals include discussions of the public ownership of buildings – to potentially be purchased by members of the public and community each contributing very small sums.

Organisers say

“Llanelli Township is working with Cwmpas and other local social enterprises to help bring Llanelli back to life – by owning some buildings and voting as a community on how we develop them.

“We are a Cooperative that gives each of our Members a single vote: Wealthy or not, everybody has an equal voice in Llanelli Township.

Come over to meet the team and hear Cwmpas explain Community Shares: The power to regenerate our town centre”
