Councillor Unhappy over Carmarthenshire’s ‘Crippling Tax Rises’

Responding to the decision by the Plaid Cymru-led administration to raise council tax in Carmarthenshire by 8.9%, seeing Band D households to pay £1745.45, and passing plans to cuts services by millions next year, Independent Councillor Rob James stated “For the last fifteen years, residents in Carmarthenshire have been expected to pay more for less services. Council tax has increased by well over 50% over the last ten years and after today, none of the political parties offered an alternative to this horrendous cycle for residents.

“It is evidently clear today that Labour who have imposed their National Insurance job tax, failed to stand up for Wales on receiving their fair share of funding from London and their continuing failure to provide sufficient funding to the NHS and our councils, are not in a position to offer real opposition in Carmarthenshire – failing to provide an alternative budget and only offering platitudes for local residents. Moving forward, a group of independents councillors will collaborate to offer our communities an alternative to the managed decline by Labour and Plaid Cymru.”
