Imagine having to check hundreds of sets of lights and sets of hundreds of life size Christmas decorations and then invite everyone to your home to wait for the switch on.
That is exactly what the O’Brien family in Hendy have chosen to do each year as they decorate their home and grounds with the most incredible display of Christmas lights.
Lisa and Richard O’Brien decorate the outside and inside of their home in Hendy each year and they raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital as a result of the thousands of visitors who visit to see the Christmas wonderland.
This year there was a fireworks display after the countdown to the switch on. There was even a van selling hot chocolate, teas and coffees. Hundreds lined the pavement opposite the home waiting for the moment the lights were switched on.
The outside of their home has life size figures of Father Christmas, reindeers, snowmen, gingerbread men, toy soldiers and polar bears. Inside there are Christmas carousels, the Grinch, a nativity, hundreds of Christmas themed toys and lights.
It is a ‘Christmastacular’ effort by the couple who say they raise a lot of money each year for the hospital where their son who was born blind has been receiving treatment.
Lisa O’Brien said: “We can’t thank the hospital enough for the help they have given our son. We do this each year to try and give something back.”
