Llanelli journalist sets record straight on Stradey Park Hotel funds

A well-respected journalist from Llanelli claims he has been targeted by far right factions over his role as a spokesman for the Furnace Action Committee.

Members of The Voice of Wales have alleged that Robert Lloyd, the former editor of the Carmarthen Journal and Llanelli Star, has questions to answer over an estimated £10,000 plus sitting in a bank account.

Stan Robinson, of VoW, has asked Mr Lloyd, via a social media video, to divulge where the money is, what it is being used for and who the trustees are.

Robinson and his co host Dan Morgan have constantly attacked local politicians via the Voice of Wales page.

In one video they go on a ‘councillor hunt’ knocking on the doors of the homes of councillors to ask why they had called for a by election for Amanda Carter, who decided to switch to UKIP.

The pair make the observation that numerous Labour, Plaid and Conservative councillors also switched parties but no call was made for a by-election for them.

The VoW pair have been at the centre of the protest at the entrance to the Stradey Park Hotel.

Robinson has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate to stand against Dame Nia Griffith MP at the next general election.

VoW claim that both Dame Nia Griffith MP and Lee Waters MS will have a battle on their hands to retain their seats in the next ballot.

History has shown that both have increased their majority and that any increase in candidate numbers only splits the vote further and increases the odds of them being elected.

Mr Lloyd clarified his position and that of the Furnace Action Committee in an interview today.

He confirmed that money raised through a crowd-funding web page is still safely held in the Furnace Action Committee’s bank account and looked after by three signatories to the account – three well-respected members of the community.

Mr Lloyd declined to name them for fear of further doorstepping by the Voice of Wales pair. You can listen to the interview with Robert Lloyd here.
