Llanelli MP accuses hotel owners of ‘outrageous and shoddy treatment’ of staff

Llanelli MP, Dame Nia Griffith, has criticised the owners of the Stradey Park Hotel following the announcement that there would be staff redundancies.

Dame Nia Griffith MP said:

“This is outrageous news and such a shoddy way to treat the hotel’s existing staff who have been kept in the dark all the way through this situation by the hotel’s owners. It is a disgraceful and degrading way to treat the workers. The hotel owners, Clearsprings and Tory Ministers in the Home Office should hang their heads in shame.

I have already been in touch with the staff there to offer my full support to them in this difficult time and I am pleased that Carmarthenshire County Council have confirmed to me that they will be able and willing to assist too.”

Around 100 people marched to the hotel on Sunday. Staff were invited outside to meet the marchers who gave them a rapturous round of applause.

Allegations that the owners have sold investment opportunities at the hotel including investment opportunities to Russian investors is currently being looked at by the Home Office.

Social media has been full of comments condemning the owners and their lack of empathy for local residents and taking away a local resource where family functions and tourist stopovers have been the mainstay and employment security for a number of people over the years.

Local residents and politicians have also distanced themselves from far right groups, which had hijacked the protest.
