Man in custody after bomb disposal team disarm device in Llanelli

On Wednesday (11th Jun), Dyfed-Powys Police carried out a warrant under the Explosive Substances. Act, at New Dock Road, Llanelli. At the property, an explosive device was discovered by officers and EOD officers were called to the scene to disarm and make safe the device. A 57-year-old man was remanded into custody pending investigation.

A 100m cordon was put in place for public safety and the EOD team (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) carried out their work. Residents were directed to follow the orders of officers at the scene for their safety and a temporary rest centre was set up at Llanelli’s Leisure Centre for residents impacted by the cordon.

EOD officers concluded their searches in the late evening, having made safe one device, with no further risk to life.

The 100m cordon affected the following roadways:

  • Trinity Terrace
  • Trinity Road
  • Copperworks Road
  • New Dock Road
  • Marged Street

Officers were ordered to remain at the location overnight while enquiries continue.

Chief Inspector, Dominic Jones, said: “I would like to thank the whole community for their support and patience while we dealt with this incident. Local people will see more police in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue.”
