Parc Trostre wins another International Environmental Award

Llanelli-based retail park, Parc Trostre has been awarded a World Green Apple Environment Award.

The award represents an annual international campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practices worldwide. Over 500 other nominations were made, placing Parc Trostre as a global leader in environmental success.

In 2021, the centre won the Green Ambassador Award for encouraging wildlife through its strategic planning of bee and butterfly plants. Then, the accolade returned after implementing a variety of additional environmental facilities into the centre, including adding a bike shelter to encourage more people to cycle to the centre.

The centre was then awarded the Green Apple Award in 2022, placing the local retail park at the forefront of global companies, allowing others worldwide to follow their lead and learn from their achievement. An award ceremony will be held later in 2023 for this award, with 100 trees also being planted in Parc Trostre’s name in recognition of being awarded a Green World Ambassador.

This year, Parc Trostre was awarded a Green World Award for their ‘encouraging wildlife through nature’ scheme at an event ceremony in the USA, with travel emissions from each entrant offset by a collaboration between Green Earth Appeal and the United Nations Tree Planting Scheme.

The scheme has seen additional planting at the site including bee and butterfly-friendly plants. The centre has also used recycled timber to build fences, implemented a compost bin and increased the number of plant pots in spaces. The welsh centre has also installed a rainwater harvesting tank to water the plants and landscaped areas around the site in the summer months.

The Centre Manager at Parc Trostre said, “We are thrilled to receive a World Green Apple for our work in encouraging wildlife including Bees through additional strategic planting throughout the park. Customers and tenants have also benefited from these and the added interest and colour provided.”
